Aparajita Sarma has been learning the art form of Bharatanatyam from her mother, Guru Smt Kanaka Sudhakar, from the age of 7. For Aparajita dance is a medium of worship to god and a means to attain the end, Nirvana. Aparajita started her formal training in Bharatanatyam at the age of 7. Endowed with an innate sense of rhythm and ardent love for the art form, natural grace and flexible body, Aparajita lives for dance. At the age of 14 she started teaching at Nrityabharati and participated in many dance performances at MTNL classical dance competitions, Delhi Tamil Sangam, Ayyppa mandal pooja samitis etc.
 
She was awarded the CCRT junior scholarship and she performed her arangetram in triveni kala sangam the very next year. After that it was performances all the way for Aparajita who completed her Economics Hons at Hindu college. Her main attraction in Hindu college was ‘Srijya’, the choreography society, where different themes were portrayed through the language of dance without any boundaries. Aparajita has given solo performances at Delhi Tamil Sangam, India International Centre, Nritya Pratibha Festival organized by Sangeet Nataka academy, India Habitat center, Triveni Kala Sangam. As a graded artiste she has performed for Doordarshan. She has performed in special choreographies like confluence in which she performed Bharatanatyam merging with Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Kathak and Contemporary. She has played the leading role in group choreographies like Krishna Leela Taringini, Rani of Jhansi, Navarasanayaki, Nasha hi Nasha etc. A senior scholarship holder from Sahitya Kala Parishad, Aparajita was a part of Bharatiya Kala Kendra ballet productions like Ramayana, Shri Krishna and karna. As an artiste of teamwork production ‘Bollywood Love Story’, Aparajita has widely performed in countries like Germany, Spain, Italy and South Africa. Having an innate sense of creativity she has choreographed many dance themes: mythological, abstract, spiritual, thematic as well as pure dance. She has choreographed ballets like Pied Piper of Hamlin and Ashtalakshmi- the woman. Her choreographies for national competitions held in Pune and Dehradun have continuouslybagged prizes over the years. Many organizations have recognized her hard work and awarded her with titles like Nritya Nivedita Puraskar and Kala Vardhini . She has completed her M.A in Bharatanatyam (Alankar) from Akhila Bharatiya Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya. For Aparajita this is just the beginning and her aim is to learn as many dance forms and grow as a dancer and choreographer.

Accomplishments:

-          Alankar in Bharatanatyam from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Maha Vidhyalaya meeraj.

-          Was awarded CCRT junior scholarship in 2004 and Sahitya kala Parishad senior scholarship in 2008.

-          Is a grade B artiste for Doordarshan

-          Was awarded Nritya Nivedita Puraskar by Akhila Bharatiya Sanskrutik Sangh, Pune.

-          Was awarded Kala Vardhini by UniversalSanskrutikShrodhNatyaAcademy, Dehradun.

-          Was awarded Nritya Bhushan by the India Theatre Olympiad, Cuttack.

 Bharatanatyam Performances

- Gave a solo performances in India international Centre, India Habitat Centre, Delhi Tamil Sangam Rk Puram, Doordarshan, Epicentre, Gurgaon, Nritya Pratibha festival in Dehradun organized by Sangeet Nataka Academy, Agra in foreign cultural meet, Sai Nrityotsav, Bangalore, DD Chandana TV, Jaya TV,  India Theatre Olympid, Cuttack and many more.

- Performed Navarasa Nayaki at Bhavalaya 2010 in Sultunate of Oman

- Performed Bharatanatyam in International Folk Festival, Kullu.

- Performed in IIC, Delhi to demonstrate the therapeutic values of Bharatanatyam as an Indian Classical dance.

- Performed Tyagaraja Panchratana Keertanas in Lok Kala Manch, Delhi Tamil Sangam,  Chinmayya sabha and Triveni Kala sangam.

- Performed during Mandala Pooja celebrations at Shree Ayyappa temples.

- Performed at ISKON temple on the occasion of Ram Navami celebrations.

- Performed on the occasion of Andhra Pradesh Day Celebrations organized by government of Andhra Pradesh.

- Has played the main role in many dance dramas of the academy like Nasha hi Nasha as Sutradhar, Swarsangam, Krishna Leela Tarangini as Rukmini, Rani of Jhansi in ballet ‘Ashthalakshmi, the woman’.

- Peformed in Navarathiri festival in Madurai.

 - Performed Navarasanayaki ballet at the Delhi Tamil Sangam.

- Participated and won first prize in solo and group MTNL Delhi Heart Care Classical Dance Competitions consecutively for three years.

- Participated and won in Bharatanatyam solo competition in various DU Colleges and other state level colleges. 

- Participated in All India multi-lingual Drama, dance, Music contest in Poona and won first prize in solo and duet Bharatanatyam Youth category in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

-          Participated in Universal Sanskrutik Shrodh Natya Academy All India Dance Competition and won first in Solo Bharatanatyam competition.

 

 Other Performances

- Performed innovative semi-classical dance presentations on Nature and Krishna in the Delhi International Arts Festival and Indradhanush festival.

- Performed with Bharatiya Kala Kendra in their Dance dramas like Shri Ram, Krishna Leela and Karna.

-  Performed for Teamworks production in Germany, South Africa, Switzerland, Spain and Italy

- Performed in dance shows of ‘DanceCultureperforming ArtsAcademy’ experimenting with contemporary and jazz.

- Performed pratibimb where I collaborated with contemporary dancer and presented reflection between Bharatanatyam and contemporary.

- Performed in choreography society of Hindu college for 3 years where I got trained under various contemporary choreographers.
